Why the Name?

We’re sometimes asked where our name came from and what it means for our current members. The name Industrial Credit Union is a nod to our roots in Whatcom County when we started in 1941. In those days, credit unions were limited to serving only the employees of a specific company or industry. For us, that was the Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Company (later purchased by the Georgia-Pacific Corporation).

Our membership is now open to anyone who lives or works in Washington; but we’ve kept our name as a tribute to the hard-working people who helped build strong communities within Whatcom County and who gave us the opportunity to serve them. Much like our founders in 1941, our goal is to provide personalized, superior service and valuable financial services to every single one of our members.
